Nobody wants to look older than they really are, but no matter how much we try to avoid it, there’s no running away from aging. Below are 3 of the most common causes of eye wrinkles to keep in mind:
Even though heredity does play a role in how you age, most skin changes commonly associated with aging, including those under eye wrinkles, are caused by sun exposure. Changes occur slowly, on a molecular level, and are the result of UV rays A and B. The damage occurs by gradually decreasing the skin’s ability to produce elastin and collagen. Because the skin under the eyes is very thin, it is especially vulnerable to damage from the sun, as well as from tanning beds, leading to under eye wrinkles. It also doesn’t help that when applying sunscreen, many people often avoid putting the protection around their eyes because they are afraid of the lotion getting into their eyes.
Excessive alcohol or smoking can also inhibit the formation of elastin and collagen in the skin. This causes the wrinkles in the face to become more accentuated. Furthermore, smoking and other toxins deprive skin cells of nutrients, such as anti-oxidants, thus taking away the skin’s ability to heal itself. The effects are especially noticeable under and around the eye area, because it has thin skin. Source: TheDermReview
Rubbing and Tugging at Your Eyes
What do you do when you’re tired? Chances are good you rub your eyes. It’s instinct! It feels good to rub your eyes when you’re tired or when they are feeling itchy, but it’s a habit you must stop today if you want to avoid looking older than you really are.
The skin around your eyes is so thin that when you rub them it causes them to wrinkle back and forth. Consistently rubbing them will cause them to wrinkle faster than if you never started the bad habit in the first place.
This goes for removing your eye make-up as well. Don’t remove roughly. Let the makeup dissolve a bit with a cotton swab filled with remover before you rub it off. When you remove eye makeup by tugging at the skin around your eye you break down collagen. When you use eyeliner that tugs at the skin around your eyes you are causing further damage to that skin. As for eye creams, apply your ring finger and gently tap in the cream, don’t rub it in harshly. Source: Skincare.About
Poor Facial Skin Care
Your facial skin, especially the one around your eyes should be well hydrated and moisturized. Whenever you do not moisturize or let your skin dry, it will form under eye wrinkles as you make facial movements and expressions. This cause of wrinkles under eyes is more seen in people with dry and dehydrated skins as opposed to those who have oily skins. Source: BeautyHows
