We offer Surrey Juvéderm® injection services alongside our many other dermal fillers and wrinkle relaxers.
Juvéderm® is a hyaluronic acid dermal filler used for wrinkle reduction, and boosting the surface of the skin on the face. While there are other hyaluronic acid-based fillers on the market, Juvéderm® is a name brand by Allergan, the same company behind Botox®, Belkyra™, Latisse® and other prescription-grade products in the medi-cosmetic industry (they’ve recently acquired CoolSculpting®, too). JUVÉDERM® is not just one product, but a series of products.
At our medical skincare and laser centre in Surrey, we’ve chosen Juvéderm® as our hyaluronic acid filler of choice. This is because of its high quality molecule adaptation, and long-lasting results. It is, arguably, the best performing product in this category of dermal fillers, claiming to last between 1.5 – 2 years (most others claim up to 10 months). It also offers a series of formulas that can be used around the face for different purposes, to get more targeted results.
Other similar products on the market include Restylane® (formerly Perlane®), Teosyal®, and others. The thing to know, as a consumer, is that these are differentiated mostly by their brand names, and the companies that sell them. However, there are subtle differences in their specific production techniques, testing procedures, and the length of time before they are absorbed by your body. All of them are based on hyaluronic acid, which means they are all reversible, and not permanent.
The most important decision to make with any dermal filler is not the brand name, but the medical practitioner who will be doing the injection. These injectables can cause serious harm if they’re not handled professionally (in some cases, they can even cause blindness). We would always encourage you to seek a licensed physician for this sort of thing, which we do have on staff at our anti-aging clinic.
We encourage you to book a consultation with us, so we can take a look at your case, learn about your beauty goals, and recommend a treatment plan that will work for you. Surrey Juvéderm® injections form a fraction of the anti-aging solution we offer (we have many). We can help you find the right fit, or mix of products and technologies, to give you the look you want.
What is there to love about the Juvéderm® injectable facial fillers?
Juvéderm® is a long-lasting cosmetic filler for the face. It can provide a so-called, ‘liquid’ facelift, without invasive surgery. It raises folds and wrinkles in the skin, to give a natural, anti-aging look – one that preserves normal facial expressions.
But it’s not just for wrinkles. One Juvéderm® line, VOLBELLA®, can also be used to plump the lips, or improve lip lines. And another, VOLUMA®, can be used to raise the cheeks.
The procedure time for Juvéderm® is quick, and the downtime is nil. Results are also seen immediately.
The hyaluronic acid in this facial filler is a sugar that is already found in your body, naturally. For example, it resides in your skin and cartilage. While collagen and elastin are buzzwords in the beauty industry, hyaluronic acid is a lesser-known term. But, it follows alongside these other aging components. It is needed to maintain youthfulness, just as much as collagen or elastin, because of the moisture it provides to the skin. In other words, it integrates with your body’s existing biological makeup, for a more natural look.
The VYCROSS® linking mechanism between the molecules in the Juvéderm® gel create an even higher, softer, more malleable and natural look, compared to other hyaluronic acid fillers. This chemistry-driven, ultra-precise formula also makes it slightly harder for the body to absorb, which results in fewer repeat treatments to maintain effectiveness.
The Juvéderm® injection vials come with built-in anaesthetic (lidocaine), to help ease potential pain from treatment. This makes it a comfortable choice, without having to wait for anaesthetic to take effect before an actual procedure.
What can Juvéderm® cosmetic injections be used for?
Surrey Juvéderm® treatments are not just for wrinkles! This anti-aging product can be used to boost multiple facial features on your skin that have been depleted of moisture, collagen and elasticity. The line of Juvéderm® solutions are as follows:
- Juvéderm® VOLBELLA® – this is for slightly changing the lip shape and adding fullness to the lips. It is also used to add volume to tear troughs, to smooth the bags or hollows under your eyes.
- Juvéderm® VOLIFT® – this is for smoothing smile lines, marionette lines and nasolabial lines around the mouth.
- Juvéderm® VOLUMA® – this is for performing a non-surgical cheek-lift. It is the longest-lasting Juvéderm® formula . It was named a “beauty breakthrough” by Allure magazine in 2014.
- Juvéderm® ULTRA XCTM – this is for gentle wrinkle reduction, such as frown lines, lines around the eyebrows, or vertical lines around the mouth.
- Juvéderm® ULTRA PLUS XCTM – this is for deep wrinkles and folds, such as marionette lines.
- Juvéderm® VOLITE – this is to deeply hydrate skin on the face, cleavage area and hands. It has an overall smoothing effect on the wrinkles in those areas, and gives the skin a better ‘glow.’ It can also be used to complement the other Juvéderm® products too.
All the above Juvéderm® products at our Surrey clinic also contain lidocaine for pain relief.
An on-staff doctor will be able to determine which Juvéderm® formula, or series of formulas, will be best for your needs.
How does Juvéderm® work to reduce wrinkles, plump lips and raise cheeks?
With Juvéderm® there are three main ‘keys’ that form its foundation for effectiveness:
- The basic, hyaluronic acid (HA) molecules it is based on.
- The combination of low-weight and high-weight HA molecules, which create a cross-linking chain in the chemical formula, called VYCROSS®.
- The individual formulas – the Juvéderm® line of products – that achieve specific results on different parts of the face.
The second ‘key’ above is the main thing sets this HA cosmetic filler apart from its competition.
To understand how Juvéderm® works, it helps to know how hyaluronic acid behaves in the body, and in chemistry. This complex sugar binds to water (H2O molecules). When HA and H2O are combined, your bodily tissues get ‘moisturized.’ In a way, HA cosmetic fillers are like using a moisturizer deep under the skin, instead of on the surface. Except of course, the formula is very different, and the moisturizing effect lasts months, not hours.
We’ve just explained the first ‘key.’ The second ‘key’ is this:
Among HA molecules, you have variations that are “low molecular weight” and “high molecular weight.” Most HA facial fillers use only the “high molecular weight” variety. But Juvederm mixes things up, by using mostly low molecular weight HA in its formula, and sometimes just 1/10th of the high molecular weight HA. The result is more of what is called a “cross-linked” chain of HA molecules. These cross-links increase the concentration of the formula, and decrease its absorbability.
So, in effect, with Juvéderm®, you have a ‘spongier’ gel that ‘flows’ easier into the skin, while being injected (resulting in less swelling afterwards, too). It also becomes more ‘bendable’ and ‘shapeable’ by the practitioner. In turn, this gives a much more natural look that many are after. Then, by being less absorbable, it lasts longer than typical HA cosmetic fillers. It is an advanced technology in the world of dermal fillers, in this sense.
That brings us to our third ‘key’:
The different Juvéderm® products contain different concoctions of the high molecular weight and low molecular weight HA. This makes their substance properties different, for different uses. Sometimes you want a stronger gel, for more lift. And sometimes less, so as not to ‘overdo’ a treatment area. Doctors in the medspa industry can then use a combination of pre-made formulas, tested for efficacy on different parts of the face.
Juvéderm® vs Restylane®
In case you’re wondering, the other popular HA filler brand, Restylane®, works differently. It focuses on the size of particles for each of its products, rather than the cross links between them. This way, the products are either thicker or thinner, for different applications.
During this dermal filler treatment, our on-staff doctor will use a unique method for inserting the gel, which is not used by many doctors. Instead of injecting with a syringe into many parts around the face, a cannula at one point is used instead. This results in a single injection mark, instead of many. The cannula will be injected at the depth of the dermis, per the norm for Juvéderm® treatments.
The doctor may stroke the area to conform the fluid, which can flow out easily from the syringe. The whole process takes 30 to 60 minutes. The anaesthetic is contained in the gel solution, so it is not administered separately. It’s an ‘in and out’ beauty treatment.
After treatment, you may get an ice pack to help with pain. However, mostly, it’s just letting the mixture ‘sit’ and integrate with your body’s tissues (no touching allowed!).
How many treatments does Juvéderm® require for an injectable face lift or lip enhancement?
Each Juvéderm® injection is temporary. At most, it can stay in the body for roughly 2 years. This is the case mainly for the VOLUMA® cheek volumizer, which is denser than other Juvéderm® formulas. For other Juvéderm® treatments, results lasts between 6 and 14 months. This always depends on the person, since every body reacts differently to the addition of hyaluronic acid. Some will absorb it more quickly than others, and will thus see the effects fade sooner.
If you don’t want to continue with this dermal filler, your face will go back to the way it was. If you keep up regular treatments, you should continue to see results.
our Surrey Juvéderm® treatments can also be safely used to supplement other fillers, such as Bellafill®. It can be used in other parts of the face where other fillers are not suited. Or, it can be used on top of other fillers, for better effect, such as with a non-surgical facelift. Our doctor will advise on these types of procedures, and whether or not they will benefit you.
Is there downtime with Juvéderm® facial sculpting? What about side effects?
There is usually no downtime with Juvéderm® facial injections. Most people resume all normal activity immediately after treatment. However, it is common to experience swelling, bruising, redness or tenderness in the treatment area.
For about a week to 10 days before your treatment session, you should not take any blood-thinning medications or supplements. These include both prescription and over-the-counter products such as aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS).
For a while after the treatment, it’s best to avoid being in the cold or the sun. We’ll also ask you not to touch the treatment area, nor to press, scratch or rub it – even if it gets itchy or lumpy. You can also get lumps. That’s ok. This usually subsides after a few days and at most, a few weeks. If you feel something is wrong, or if you get lumps, it’s important to come in to the clinic and let us solve it for you.
If you have concerns about the way Juvéderm® affects your look after treatment, there is no need to worry; it is reversible. We can inject hyaluronidase into the treatment area, which will help break down the hyaluronic acid faster than usual. Your body will then naturally disperse of the substances that have been injected.
While it’s possible to experience severe side effects with Juvéderm®, it is really rare. Aside from allergic reactions, the severe side effects are not necessarily due to the product itself, but the technique and experience of the physician applying it into your skin. We can’t stress enough that only a licensed, trained doctor should be injecting anything into you. And, that is only after you’ve learned of all the possible outcomes. Any time you inject a substance into your skin, there will be the risk of hitting nerves or blood vessels, which is not safe. Hence, the need for a doctor’s expertise.
Juvéderm® is well tested, and is approved for use by Health Canada, plus the FDA in the USA (which restricts how many cosmetic injectables are allowed on the market, despite there being hundreds available in other parts of the world). Variations of the Juvéderm® formula have been in use in the medspa industry since 2004, with over 25 million treatments performed to date.
During your initial consultation with us as your medical spa, we’ll ask you about your health history, and explain all the possible side effects. It is very important you notify us of any allergies, current medications or illnesses, and whether or not you are pregnant. This will help us reduce Juvéderm® or injection risks for you.
What is the cost of a non-surgical face lift with Juvéderm® volumizer at your Surrey clinic?
Knowing exactly how much your Surrey Juvéderm® facial rejuvenation will cost is nearly impossible to determine without an in-person consultation. Multiple factors, such as age, genetics, natural-born facial features, and the exact problem you’re trying to solve will play a part in coming to an estimate.
We can say that our treatments start at approximately $735, for one full syringe. However, the cost per syringe reduces when more than one is needed, which the doctor will determine after an initial consultation. We also offer package rates for multiple treatments, which can affect your end price-point as well.
Our rates are subject to change without notice. Our pricing includes doctor service time and equipment. The cost of an initial consultation with us will also be deducted from the treatment cost.
The makers of Juvéderm® currently run a loyalty program called BRILLIANT DISTINCTIONS®. This may add savings to your continuous Surrey Juvéderm® treatments, or on other medical cosmetic products. More information can be read here: https://www.juvederm.ca/en/savings. Our clinic helps its clients take advantage of this program. Ask us for details!
We would encourage you to book a consultation at our clinic, where we can discuss facial rejuvenation treatments in more detail with you. This is not just to give a Juvéderm® price, but to let you know of other options we may recommend for your case.
