Like Juvéderm’s dermal filler products, SkinVive is made with VYCROSS® technology.

VYCROSS® is a special way of combining short and long strands of hyaluronic acid. This creates more precision in the thickness and fluidity of a hyaluronic acid gel. Each VYCROSS® product is created to be thicker or thinner, depending on what they are meant to treat.

On the one hand, VYCROSS® makes Juvéderm injectables more effective, performance-wise (i.e. less swelling, more natural-looking results, better lift). On the other hand, the technology provides longer-lasting results.

SkinVive is the smoothest, most ‘runny’ of the Juvéderm VYCROSS® lineup. It is designed this way so it can be evenly injected into the middle layers of the dermis as micro particles, without creating lumps.

SkinVive is micro injected over a large area, rather than being targeted at one spot.

Dermal fillers, by contrast, are designed to be thicker. They are injected beneath the dermis to replace fat pads and bone structures. This way, they can volumize specific areas like the lips, temples or cheekbones without migrating.

Since it can take time for hyaluronic acid to produce collagen, the results of SkinVive can take one to four weeks to begin showing. That said, the hyaluronic acid on its own provides instant hydration.

Thereafter, SkinVive continues to keep skin hydrated for up to 9 months. Results can vary depending on how your body metabolizes the substance and how well you care for your skin after treatment.

SkinVive (a.k.a. VOLITE®) contains lidocaine, which is an anesthetic (i.e. a numbing agent). While you may feel the ‘poke’ of a small, thin needle at first, the pain sensation will soon dissipate, thanks to the built-in lidocaine.

SkinVive, like dermal fillers, is a tolerable treatment. Most patients do fine without additional pain aversion (except maybe a squeeze ball!).

A SkinVive treatment takes less than 30 minutes to complete.

It takes only one SkinVive treatment per 9 months to see results. Of course, results can vary from person to person, depending on how each body metabolizes the substance, and how well skin is cared for after treatment.

SkinVive is a much more convenient treatment compared to similar products on the market, which require multiple, initial sessions.

Since the effects of SkinVive fade over time, you may consider getting a touch up before the 9 month mark. This will help maintain results.

Like with any injectable aesthetic treatment, you may experience redness, swelling or bruising at the injection sites where SkinVive has been administered. These side effects should subside within a couple days.

Avoiding alcohol or blood thinners before treatment will be important to avoid side effects. Speak to a doctor before stopping any of your medications before this treatment.

You’ll be able to go back to your normal activities right away, as long as you wear sunscreen and avoid strenuous workouts. You may be advised not to wear makeup for 12 hours after your session, or to only wear quality, mineral makeup.

Since SkinVive is primarily made of hyaluronic acid, which is found in our bodies, it is unlikely to cause an allergic reaction.

SkinVive has been shown to be safe in clinical studies.

Other potential side effects can be due to the practitioner’s method of injection. It is important to seek a highly qualified, trained injector.
