You can think of it like a light-weight, medium-coverage foundation and sunscreen in one. It also bodes well for all skin types, including sensitive and acne-prone skin, since its minerals don’t sink into the dermal layers.

This is a water-resistant, moisturizing, shiny lip colourant with the added bonus of being a sunblock, too. The lips are an easy place to forget in our SPF routines. But, they are just as susceptible to sun damage as the rest of our skin.

Constant UV exposure can not only lead to sunburn and dry, wrinkled lips, it can also cause labial lentigo - a permanent brown spot on the lips. Sometimes, lack of lip protection can require medical intervention.

So it’s definitely not a small thing to keep the lips protected from UVA and UVB rays, even in the winter, or when staying inside (UVA rays are invisible, and penetrate through windows).

The Colorescience® Liquid Lip Shine SPF 35 contains zinc oxide - a common, mineral sunblock and skin soother. This non-chemical sun protectant is used to avoid skin irritation, which can happen more easily with chemical-based sun filters. In fact, this same ingredient is used in some diaper rash creams!

The formula also contains lip conditioners, so you can use it as a lip balm, too.

It’s an excellent, multi-tasking makeup item, like many other Colorescience® products.

This product should not be used anywhere except the lips (i.e. don’t try it as an eye shadow or blush!). 

The zinc oxide sunblock adds a bit of thickness to the product, but not too much; many testify that this is not a ‘sticky’ lip gloss. It keeps lips moisturized and adds a sheer bit of colour while doing so. The zinc oxide may even help with a common complaint of lip glosses versus lipsticks: that they don't stay on long enough. The Colorescience® Liquid Lip Shine is a water-resistant formula, afterall.

SPF should be applied every two hours, to maintain adequate sun protection. However, lips can often be susceptible to product wear off, since they are near our wet mouth, and we wipe after eating, etc. You may want to use this SPF lip gloss more frequently, especially if you are swimming.

Apply SPF to the lips liberally about 15 minutes before sun exposure.

This facial skin formula is a go-to for smoothing rough, creased skin. It provides near-instant hydration in the way your skin recognizes it: through hyaluronic acid (HA).

This product has also demonstrated positive, long-term effects with regards to fine lines and wrinkles, as well as texture. When following up with clinical study participants at weeks 1, 4 and 8, researchers observed improvements with continual, twice-daily use of this product. Of course, there are many hyaluronic acid products on the market today. So why is this one any different? 

It all started with the scientific knowledge that most topical HA products can’t actually penetrate the epidermis, let alone the dermis, where most of our body’s natural HA resides. Hyaluronic acid also degrades quickly when it sits on top of the skin. Plus, since aged skin contains fewer HA receptors (mainly the one called CD44), it has a harder time bonding to externally-applied HA.

Researchers at SkinMedica® sought to solve this problem by producing an hyaluronic acid product that would actually work, and they did!

The power of the HA5™ treatment is rooted in SkinMedica’s VITISENSCE® Technology. This proprietary formula is made with a key ingredient: vitis flower stem cell extract. It also includes peptides and natural, marine microorganism polysaccharides.

This formula also gives your skin a big ‘jump start’ by including the types of hyaluronic acid it needs. Instead of just containing one strain of HA, it contains five different forms of it. These come in multiple, chemistry-based structures (such as cross linked, uncrossed, time-released encapsulated, nano and sodium hyaluronate). 

The idea is to ‘load up’ your skin on water hydration, using various functions of HA that your skin can use, in different ways. If you’re familiar with low-molecular weight and high-molecular weight HA, this formula includes all of them, and more.

Together, these work to help your skin build a barrier. Then, through the VITISENSCE® Technology, it can later maintain its own hyaluronic acid, naturally.

This is what makes it completely different in function to a ‘normal’ hydrator.

This product goes on with wet fingers, to cleansed and toned skin, before SPF or moisturizer. Use it morning and evening on the face, neck and décolleté.
