The Fraxel Laser works by creating tiny microscopic dots in the skin. Areas of unaffected skin surround each treated area. These treated areas called microthermal zones, stimulate the body’s natural production of collagen in the dermis layer of the skin. The remaining healthy skin promotes rapid healing of the skin. The Fraxel laser only treats about 20% of the skin at a given time and so multiple treatments are required but each treatment does not require the amount of downtime with a traditional resurfacing laser such as CO2 surfacing.
