ThermiRF®, also formerly referred to as SymphonyRF, is a versatile and precise way to ‘melt’ fat under the skin, and produce collagen for anti-aging treatments. As such, it is both a skin tightening, and body smoothing (or, contouring) system. We offer this solution to patients from Surrey, White Rock, Langley, Delta, Richmond, Vancouver, Whistler, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, Aldergrove, Abbotsford, Chilliwack and other nearby cities (even as far as Washington, USA).
At our skincare and laser clinic in Surrey, B.C., we find ThermiRF® to be an indispensable beauty technology. This is because it can act in areas that other cosmetic devices can’t easily reach. It also can be used with controlled, live-feedback settings, so as to not over-treat, nor under-treat, any area.
We used to offer Thermage CPT in Surrey for the face, eyes and body. However, we have since switched to the more superior, ThermiRF® for these needs.
To find out if ThermiRF®, or any radio-frequency solution is right for the condition you want to solve, we recommend booking an in-person consultation at our clinic. We have many technologies to heal a variety of conditions. The right treatment path for your case is essential to getting the results you want.
What is there to love about ThermiRF® skin tightening and body contouring?
Unlike other radiofrequency treatments, this technology allows practitioners to heat dermal layers under the skin at high temperatures (when using the probe handpieces). These temperatures are not normally tolerated on the skin’s surface. The additional heat helps to stimulate more collagen under the skin (compared to other beauty treatments of this calibre). The result is that the dermal layers become smoother and tighter, without having to penetrate visible skin. This would otherwise be painful, and potentially damaging. Lower temperatures, on the other hand, would require more sessions to see results.
For the surface gliding handpieces that come with ThermiRF®, the constant movement allows us to heat the skin for larger areas, but not as high.
The ThermiRF® procedure is done without surgery. In fact, it can have more smoothing results compared to liposuction. And, it can target bumpy skin, or fat, in hard-to-reach areas. A flat-top handpiece is sometimes not ideal for these areas, such as when using truSculpt® iD or CoolSculpting®.
Our Surrey ThermiRF® skin tightening machine comes with multiple handpieces and probes. It uses specific temperatures that are controlled by the practitioner during treatment (not just set up before treatments). These attributes make it a very versatile device. It can tighten skin for many cosmetic or medical applications. This includes inside the body (such as for vaginal rejuvenation).
The screen on the machine gives the practitioner a visual, live-feed infrared video of the treatment area. This is so they know exactly where they are targeting fat and stimulating collagen. This allows for precise, accurate treatments, and avoids overheating. In turn, fewer ‘correction’ sessions are needed.
What skin conditions can ThermiRF® treat?
ThermiRF® can do a lot. Since its function is relatively simple (to tighten skin tissues), it can be used on nearly all parts of the body. Conditions it can treat include:
- Aging, wrinkled and sagging skin on the face and neck (jowl and neck lines). See also: Infini™ RF Microneedling.
- Around face, including the eyes area, for wrinkles and lines.
- Double chin fat. See also: Belkyra™.
- Cellulite and bumpy skin on the body.
- Lumps and uneven skin shape as a result of liposuction or other fat-reduction treatments.
- Skin tightening and contouring needs (especially where larger fat reduction machines can’t reach). Examples include: knee fat, love handles, back fat, thigh fat, arm fat, breast bulges, spot fat, etc.
- Vaginal laxity.
- Sagging breasts (for less severe cases).
- Excessive underarm sweating*
*Note: for underarm sweat, we typically recommend the miraDry® treatment. It’s faster and more effective for that part of the body.
How does ThermiRF® work for skin tightening and body smoothing?
Skin laxity from collagen loss is the cause of many beauty woes and even some medical conditions. For that reason, reversing the aging process by producing more collagen in skin tissues solves a lot of these issues – even if only temporarily. ThermiRF® does that with the use of heat from radiofrequency waves. It may sound too simple to be true, but it’s not. Scientifically, this process is called the “electrocoagulation of soft tissue.”
Properly heating fat cells in your skin tissues (under the surface) does two things:
- ‘Melts’ fat away so that it can be naturally removed by the body (other laser technologies refer to this as “hotsculpting,” though this is a different procedure).
- Stimulates your body’s natural response to produce collagen for healing, which invariably causes skin tightening.
The use of radiofrequency in cosmetic and medical applications is wide ranging. So, ThermiRF® is not an unusual technology in that sense. What makes it unique is that it allows practitioners to target fat and skin laxity in very specific, and varied ways. While other cosmetic technologies are usually meant for limited applications, the ThermiRF® acts as an ‘in between’ treatment to fill the ‘gaps’ that other devices can’t treat. But that’s not to say it can’t be used as a standalone treatment, too! Those looking for Surrey or Vancouver hotsculpting, for instance, can benefit from this skin tightening technology, as with the truSculpt® iD machine.
How does ThermiRF® allow for such precise skin tightening and body contouring? Mainly, by use of:
- Its multiple surface handpieces and internal needle probes (called InjectableRF® electrodes).
- Its adjustable temperature modes, controlled by the practitioner in ‘real time,’ with an infrared camera.
Since ThermiRF® can be used with such precision and adjustability, technique is very important. You will want a provider with plenty of experience and knowledge to get you the results you want with this anti-aging treatment. It also requires local, injectable anaesthetic to reduce pain during the procedure. So you’ll also want that comfort handled correctly.
Our skin care clinic’s ThermiRF® options for handpieces, probes and treatment areas include:
ThermiTight®: This probe treatment is used on the neck, breasts, arms, abdomen, thighs, knees and lower face near the jawline. A controlled amount of heat, between 35°C – 70°C, is applied to tissue under the skin’s surface. The cannula (a long, needle-like probe) is either 5 cm, 10 cm, 15 cm or 20 cm. The entire treatment lasts about an hour, while the probes are inserted for around 15 – 20 minutes at a time.
ThermiRase®: This is a chemical-free application for the forehead and neck, with results similar to a facelift, but without surgery or injectables. Using a 5 cm cannula (a long, needle-like probe), a small series of thermal lesions are created along nerve pathways that control facial muscles. The physician locates the nerve, applies a drop of local anaesthetic, and then heats the area between 35°C – 90°C for about one minute. The process then repeats until the entire treatment area is covered. The anti-aging, smoothing effect can be seen immediately after treatment.
ThermiSmooth® Face: This special handpiece heats between 35°C – 47°C, which takes about 30 minutes (depending on the person). It glides along the skin’s surface with a flat-tipped handpiece. The circular tip is either 10 or 15 mm in diameter. It is great for reducing wrinkles around the eyes, face, cheeks, forehead, mouth and neck. You can watch a demonstration video here.
Note: the above ThermiRF® treatments use an injectable anesthetic to reduce pain during the procedure.
ThermiVa®: ThermiVa® treatments use radiofrequency energy to tighten tissues in and around the vagina. It uses a narrow, stick-like applicator. The procedure happens without discomfort or downtime. It is commonly used for stress incontinence and vaginal rejuvenation. We have a comprehensive page dedicated to the ThermiVa® treatment, which we encourage you to check out here.
How many treatments does ThermiRF® require to see skin tightening results?
The number of treatments using ThermiRF® will depend on what is being treated, as well as the technique, handpiece or probe being used. We can say that generally, this can range from 1 to 6 treatment sessions initially.
The stimulation of collagen production after each treatment session are ongoing. You will continue to see improvements, In most cases, best results are seen after 3 to 6 months. Thereafter, results can last years. However, we still recommend additional ‘upkeep’ treatments every 1-2 years. This is because your skin will continue to age, naturally.
As we’ve mentioned above, technique is very important with ThermiRF®. The treatment basically comes down to how well your physician can use the machine, to give you the results you want. And, in the right time frame. It’s not a ‘dummy proof’ system with pre-set modes that anyone can use. For this reason, you’ll want to work with a seasoned professional for ThermiRF® treatments.
The best way to give you an estimate for the number of treatments you need is to book an in-person consultation with us.
Is there downtime after ThermiRF® treatments? What about side effects?
After a ThermiRF® skin tightening treatment, you may experience some swelling for up to a week. You may also get blisters, as a result of the heat used during treatment. You can take over-the-counter painkillers, if needed, during this time.
Thereafter, you should be able to resume all your normal activity. There are no long-term side effects with ThermiRF®, other than skin tightening and smoothing, of course! It is very important to reveal your entire health history to a practitioner before any cosmetic radiofrequency treatment, including with ThermiRF®. If you have a pacemaker, you are not eligible for a ThermiRF® treatment.
What is the cost of skin tightening treatments with ThermiRF® at your skin clinic?
The cost of ThermiRF® sessions can vary a lot. It depends on what is being treated, the severity of the case, and the handpiece being used. Generally speaking, however, you can expect a single treatment session to start at $1,800 and go up from there. The number of treatments can vary between 1 to 6 sessions, typically (but this can change).
Note: ThermiVa® is packaged entirely separately. More information on that service can be read about here.
Also keep in mind that, since ThermiRF® can be used as an accessory treatment with other solutions at our clinic, it’s possible we’ll recommend other technologies to address your condition. In this case, we will be able to offer you a custom package, possibly with a mix of treatments.
The best way to find out the cost for treating your condition is to book a consultation appointment at our clinic. The consultation does have a fee. However, that fee can be used as credit towards future treatments at our clinic.
