Application:

  • After foundation, in your makeup routine, as desired.
  • Face, neck and chest, as needed (typically used on the eyes, cheeks, nose or décolleté).

Best for:

  • Adding diffused shine to lighten your makeup look.
  • Brightening complexion and evening tone.

Unlike its (Morning Glow) counterpart, this highlighter, or diffuser powder, is more-so on the light brown side, rather than having a pink hue. This makes it better for those with rosacea or redness, who want to neutralize that tone, rather than to ‘rosy up.’ It has a subtle hint of glow, rather than a ‘shiny’ or ‘glittery’ appearance.
The uses for this product can get rather creative. Some report using it as an eye shadow, or to clear up smudges during makeup application.

However, it is designed to highlight ‘raised’ areas on the face, where light would normally hit. Common examples include the cheekbones, the bridge of the nose, the brow line or even the cupid’s bow of the lips. On the inside of the eyes (where tear troughs are), you can brighten a tired-looking face with this product.

Anyone who’s into contouring will love having this subtle powder highlighter on hand. Being mineral based, and using mica as its shimmer agent, it won’t dilute foundation the way a liquid highlighter would. The formula also won’t clog pores, won’t dry out skin, and sits atop the skin’s surface, creating a bit of a barrier for moisture loss, too. A good skin care regimen using sunscreen and high quality foundation will help with that too.

A few helpful things to know about this product:

This is not designed to be a foundation or a blush, though some people love it for creating a ‘healthy’ look that way. We recommend using it selectively, so as not to look ‘shiny’ all over (in case it does that for your skin type). Its consistency and luminance more closely resemble a highlighter or diffuser.

This product works great to neutralize red tones. Some even use it on their hands, neck and chest.

Colorescience® also makes a more ‘pink-ish’ Illuminator shade, which you can buy here. Some may find Champagne Kiss (this product) too light to notice a difference with it. Keep in mind it is meant to provide a sheer glow, and not an overpowering glimmer.

If you are concerned about redness, start your day with All Calm™ as a base to this product. Follow with mineral foundation in either powder, or liquid form. Top it off with Sunforgettable® throughout the day, as a brush-on sunscreen.

This product goes on well with a brush applicator (for better blending). Try the Colorescience® kabuki brush, available here.
