Scar Removal & Keloid Scar Treatments
Scarring can be caused by a number of conditions including acne. If acne spots are “picked” in their active phase they may form scars. Scars can be a result of surgery or cuts and abrasions. In many cases they resolve naturally and fade over a period of time. Keloids usually extend further than the original wound and can appear more raised than scars. Keloids are formed as a result of trauma to the skin.
Scar removal treatments:
Skin care creams
There are a number of skin care creams that can minimize the look of scars and help reduce inflammation to newly formed scars. At BC Laser we also use “scar gel” which helps to minimize scarring and helps to heal new scars.
Laser Skin resurfacing
With Fractionated CO2 laser or Fraxel Restore laser – In general both these lasers can give great results for scar removal. They are typically used for acne scars but can also be used for stretch marks, which are a form of scar. Fractionated CO2 lasers tend to be 1-2 treatments whereas the Fraxel laser tends to be 4-6 treatments. The advantage of a Fraxel treatment is that there is no downtime.
For keloid scars an injection of steroids may be used to diminish the scars. Injections of fillers such as Artensense or Juvederm may also be used to fill in depressed scars to even out the skin.
This treatment can sometimes help to diminish the look of some scars temporarily but is not the most effective treatment for scars.
