3 Reasons Why You’re Not Losing Belly Fat

We all know the struggle of trying to lose excess body fat, especially in the abdominal area. But it’s more frustrating when you’re doing a few exercises each day and yet for some reason, the fat in your belly isn’t decreasing even a little. Find out why as you read below:

Sedentary lifestyle
I log a solid hour of exercise almost every day, but outside of that, my time is mostly spent sitting in front of a computer. Much to my dismay, research finds that dedicated workouts simply can’t compensate for being sedentary the rest of the time. According to one University of Missouri-Columbia study, sitting for just a few hours causes your body to stop making a fat-inhibiting enzyme called lipase. Getting up and walking for just two minutes during each of those hours burns an additional 59 calories a day, according to recent research from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Doing the wrong type of exercise
Many people turn to steady-state cardio workouts, like long jogs, when trying to slim down. The problem with this approach: A 45-minute run at a consistent pace may help you shed pounds at first, but soon your metabolism will adjust and you’ll stop burning calories the moment you hop off the treadmill.

A better and more effective way to lose belly fat? Weight training. Lifting weights creates micro-tears in muscle that take more energy (i.e. burn more calories) in the healing process, which can last up to two days after your training session. Source: Shape

You’re stressed out
“Stress related adrenal hormones increase your body’s susceptibility to storing any extra calories around your belly,” says Georgie Fear, R.D., author of Lean Habits for Lifelong Weight LossAnd if you’re trying to lose weight by eating less calories than you’re burning, you’ll lose fat from other regions before you ever start to lose from your stomach, says Fear. In fact, research from the University of California, San Francisco, suggests that stressed-out women are more likely to have high levels of abdominal fat—even if they have a healthy BMI. Source: WomensHealthMag
