3 Daily Habits That Cause Acne Breakouts

Due to a busy schedule, you might often breeze through your day-to-day routine without even knowing that part of it causes your skin to breakout. Stop doing the following things so you can say “bye, Felicia” to those pesky, little zits:

Using excessive powder
Too much setting powder could be a cause of your breakouts. “Layers of powder will eventually cake up and irritate the skin which can lead to pimples,” notes makeup artist Erin B. Guth. “For people trying to cut down shine with powder, I recommend using blotting papers. Using a sheet first actually absorbs some of the oil so you aren’t mixing powder with it.” Source: InStyle

Forgetting to clean your sheets
As if your dirty laundry isn’t annoying enough to deal with, it could also be causing your acne. Think about it: Your face lies on your pillowcase for hours at a time, and if it’s not clean, you’re basically rolling around in a bunch of dead skin cells and bacteria. As for that towel of yours? If it’s not fresh from the dryer, you could be wiping germs all over your newly-cleansed skin.

King suggests changing your pillowcase once or twice a week and using a fresh towel daily. Also, if you use fabric softeners made with tallow (aka animal fat — ew), they aren’t going to do your acne any favors. And definitely keep in mind that a lot of detergents and fabric softeners contain fragrance that can cause irritation as well. Source: Total Beauty

Not wiping your phone clean
Unless you wander around with wireless headphones in your ears 24/7, you’re probably pressing your phone to your ear—and therefore your face—multiple times a day. And your phone screen is basically one big bacteria colony with a wifi connection. So when you’re pressing it against your skin, you’re essentially rubbing germs onto your face—which is a recipe for a breakout. Use an electronic screen cleaner at least once a week. Source: Glamour
