3 More Tips on Reducing Acne Scars

We all know how frustrating it is to deal with acne. Even after you get rid of it, it usually takes a really time before the scars fade. Find out how you can prevent acne from leaving marks by checking out the following advice:

Get your acne under control
This may very well be the most critical component to fending off scarring, since less acne means less potential for scarring in the first place. If your acne is severe, and you develop the kind of painful, under-the-skin cysts that are prone to serious scarring, or if you find yourself constantly fending off breakouts, seeing a dermatologist is the best thing you can do for your skin. There are tons of prescription topicals that work very well for acne-prone skin, and anti-inflammatory cortisone injections are a lifesaver for those huge zits that just won’t go away. Wear sun screen
You’ve probably heard that applying sunscreen or wearing a daily moisturizer that contains sun protection formula (SPF) 15 or higher is a good idea. It’s a skin care tip that will also help reduce acne scars. Even if you do nothing more than prevent future outbreaks, using sunscreen faithfully will keep scars from getting darker; eventually they’ll fade. As you may already know, the sun’s rays increase the amount of melanin or pigment in the skin. As with tanning, the more your skin is exposed to the sun, the darker it gets. When you have acne scars, they just continue to deepen in color from sunlight — unless you smooth on a layer of sunblock every day.

The simplest way to get the proper protection is to use moisturizer designed for your particular skin type that has a SPF rating of 15 or greater. The same applies with body lotion if you’re dealing with acne on another area of your body like the back, chest or legs. Source: Health.HowStuffWorks

Refrain from picking your pimples
Never pop or pick at blackheads, whiteheads and pimples. You might think you’re clearing pores, but you’re actually spreading bacteria and irritating the skin, causing the repair process to take even longer. Source: Blog.MenScience
