Acne Skin Care & Acne Treatment
Acne is a term for pimples and complexion problems that occur in teenagers as well as adults. More than 90% of people will have acne at some point in their lives.
Acne begins at puberty as the body begins to produce hormones that stimulate oil production. The oil lubricates the skin. Pores in the skin become plugged when oil secretion is faster than the oil and skin cells can be removed. Sometimes that plug causes the wall of the pore to break causing redness, swelling and pus – i.e. a pimple. Blackheads and whiteheads may form on the skin.
Some simple rules for acne include using oil free or non comedogenic cosmetics and developing a good skin care regime to follow.
There are many treatments available both for acne and acne scars ranging from Photodynamic Therapy using Levulan, Red and Blue Light Therapy ( also known as Blu-U), laser therapy, laser resurfacing and Microdermabrasion as well as peel treatments. Treatments may also include the use of Retin A.
