World Health Comments on Tanning Beds

The World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) announced today that it has moved UV tanning beds to its highest cancer risk category -- "carcinogenic to humans."
Prior to the move, the group had classified sun lamp and tanning bed use as "probably carcinogenic to humans."

Melanoma

Had a new patient come in for a "pigment" treatment on the chest. 32 year old gal had been tanning all her life. She had some moles all over the body. The pigment area of concern was a "mole". I said we should send it off to the lab for exam. It came back as melanoma. The only reason she ended up in the doctor's office was a cosmetic concern. My advice yearly skin exams, no tanning, suncreen and protective clothing. There is no excuse for it.
