Pedicures: Be careful
Pedicures can cause problems if you go to any unsanitary nail salon.
1. When you have a pedicure you can be put at risk for fungal infections and serious bacterial infections.
2. Ask the salon how the instruments are cleaned
3. One physician even advises patients to buy their own instruments and ask the salon to use those instruments to minimize the risk of contracting infections.
4. Foot baths should be properly disinfected so that the risk of contracting infections is minimized.
5. It is a common myth that pushing the cuticle keeps nails healthy and make them grow. Actually the cuticle is the nail's natural protective barrier. Smoothing the nail surface with nail files and buffers too aggresively damages the cuticle.
